THE Cebu City Government is contemplating to revive the Colon Night Market as the Christmas and New Year season is just a few weeks away.

But Raquel Arce, head of the city’s Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) office, said in order to prevent a possible spike in Covid-19 cases, they will require vendors who plan to do business at the night market to follow health measures, including getting themselves vaccinated.

Arce told reporters on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, that the day before, they had met with vendors who sought the revival of the night market especially with Christmas, New Year and Sinulog season fast approaching.

But Arce said they will need to meet with Mayor Michael Rama and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for approval to revive the Colon Night Market.

If approved, the Colon Night Market would operate from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Vendors will be required to implement health protocols in order to do business, including observing social distancing and proper hygiene.

“We will install bottles of alcohol per stall that their customers can use and enforce the proper wearing of masks,” Arce added.

Arce said the heads of the city’s vendors’ organizations even proposed to allow only those vendors who are fully vaccinated to participate in the Colon Night Market.

Arce said to ensure that health and safety protocols are met, security personnel will need to be augmented at the Colon Night Market.

“The vendors know how strict and firm we are when it comes to implementing rules and policies, and those who intend to join the night market will undergo briefing and attend a meeting to understand the proper regulations,” Arce added.
