Laurel to face Sanchez in Mexico

FORMER World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental super bantamweight champion Alie Laurel is back on the road as he sees action in Mexico this weekend.

The 29-year-old Laurel will face Mexican prospect Sergio Chirino Sanchez on Dec. 5, 2021 (PH time) at the Palenque de Leon in Guanajuato.

Laurel is coming off a unanimous decision loss against former amateur standout Yevegeniy Pavlov on Dec. 16, 2020 in Kazakhstan.

This will be Laurel’s sixth fight outside of the Philippines. He has fought in Kazakhstan, Thailand, Japan and China. He’s 3-2 on the road.

Laurel has fought the likes of former world title challengers Aston Palicte and Ernesto Saulong, and Joe Noynay.

Sanchez, in the meantime, is a 27-year-old Mexican up-and-comer that’s being groomed by his handlers. The best fighter that he has fought was Maricio Lara, who handed him his only career defeat, a second-round stoppage. Lara owns a knockout win of former world champion Josh Harrington.

Since suffering his first career loss in 2018, Sanchez has won his next seven fights, wherein he knocked out six of his seven opponents. Laurel, once ranked No. 12 by the WBO, is 18-5-1 with 11 knockouts, while Sanchez is 16-1 with 10 knockouts.
