Lapu residents to receive free training in welding, massage

THE residents of Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City will be provided with a free skills training program on welding and wellness massage on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan announced on his Facebook post that the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to train 105 individuals for welding and 85 individuals for massage.

The mayor said they selected these individuals since their jobs have been affected by the pandemic and the local government of Lapu-Lapu City will also soon offer more courses such as housekeeping and hairdressing.

CSWDO head Junard Abalos said the city will provide P160 per day as allowance for each of the trainees for the whole duration of the program but this can only be claimed once they graduate.

Abalos further said they are bringing this program to Olango to provide equal opportunities on the island and once they graduate, they shall receive a national certification from Tesda that they can use in applying for jobs.

Abalos said it is the perfect time to join the training, especially the one for wellness massage.

“Since there are a lot of resorts and hotels, there is a big chance for them to land a job,” he said.
