Fewer jabs in Metro Cebu on Day 2 of national vax drive

NINE local government units (LGUS) in Metro Cebu vaccinated a total of 79,475 individuals on the second day of the three-day National Covid-19 Vaccination Days on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) reported.

VVOC spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said Wednesday this is 90 percent of its 87,819 target.

The second-day figure was lower than the 83,460 individuals jabbed with a vaccine against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on the first day, Nov. 29, when the same LGUs met 95 percent of the 87,819 target.

These LGUs are the highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu; component cities of Talisay and Naga; and municipalities of Minglanilla, Consolacion, Cordova and Liloan.

On Tuesday, 75,464 jabs administered in Metro Cebu were for the first dose while 2,763 were for the second dose and 1,248 for the booster dose, figures submitted by the LGUs showed.

Among the nine LGUs, Lapu-Lapu City achieved the highest turnout against target at 136 percent followed by Mandaue City, 98 percent; Consolacion, 98 percent; Minglanilla, 97 percent; Cebu City, 96 percent; Talisay City, 83 percent; Naga City, 69 percent; Cordova, 51 percent; and Liloan, 36 percent.

CV ranks third

The VVOC also said Central Visayas ranked third in the country in number of vaccinated individuals on the first day of the three-day national vaccination drive held in 17 regions in the country.

On Nov. 29, the region recorded 212,383 jabs, and on Nov. 30, the second day, 212,266 jabs as of Dec 1, 10 a.m.

Loreche said the figures change because of the continuous entry of data from various LGUs.

“We have already vaccinated 71.04 percent of our total eligible population with the first dose and 51.04 percent for the second dose in Cebu,” she said.

Cebu is composed of Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City and Provincial Cebu.

Nationwide, Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said Wednesday that over five million individuals had been inoculated since the first day of the three-day national vaccination drive.

She said 2,708,018 individuals got their Covid-19 jabs on Nov. 29, while 2,292,335 on Nov. 30.

She said they hope the country will achieve the nine-million jabs target of the national government that aims to boost the vaccination program until yearend.

Among the concerns amid the massive vaccination drive are the denial of walk-in vaccinees and the early closure of vaccination sites. Cabotaje said these concerns will be addressed during the second leg of the national vaccination drive from Dec. 15 to 17.

The national government eyes to fully vaccinate 54 million individuals by yearend. As of Nov. 29, only 35,898,392 individuals in the country were fully vaccinated. (JOB, TPM / SUNSTAR PHILIPPINES)
