Negros Occidental exceeds target, tops national vax in Western Visayas

NEGROS Occidental topped the three-day National Vaccination Days in Western Visayas with 213,291 persons vaccinated against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) or 142.19 percent of its 150,000 target, records from the Regional Vaccination Center of the Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas showed.

The province exceeded its target to inoculate 150,000 individuals for three days or a daily target of 50,000.

On November 29, Negros Occidental vaccinated 68,911 residents, 71,012 the following day, and 73,368 on Wednesday.

In Bacolod City, 70,752 persons were vaccinated during the three-day inoculation drive also exceeding its target of 66,171 vaccinees.

In other parts of the region, Iloilo Province had 134,500 inoculated individuals; Capiz - 51,699; Antique - 45,000; Aklan - 29,459; Guimara - 28,695; and Iloilo City - 21,208.

These brought a total of 592,341 persons vaccinated in Western Visayas or 74.88 percent of the target vaccinees at 263,678.

Provincial Administrator lawyer Rayfrando Diaz II said the mass vaccination in the province is “very successful.”

"Regionwide, Negros Occidental contributed a lot to the vaccination program of the national government," Diaz said.

He also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for the vaccines "that were made available to all Negrenses."

The vaccinees were given the right to choose what vaccine brand they want as all brands were made available to them, he added.

Diaz also said even before the three-day national vaccination drive, or at least two weeks before the activity, "we have improved our vaccination program."

“We will try to convince more people to get vaccinated because it is for their own good,” the provincial administrator also said, adding that they will continue their vaccination program so they will reach 70-percent herd immunity at the soonest time.

In a related development, the National Task Force Against Covid-19 has issued an advisory on the voluntary extension of the Bayanihan, Bakunahan National Vaccination Days until Friday, December 3.

The National Vaccination Center has received requests from several local government units requesting for the extension of the drive as a large number of vaccines recipients are still flocking in vaccination sites, it added.
