Cebu City issues new directives for Christmas, 2022 activities

THE Cebu City Government has issued directives that would serve as a guide for major events such as Christmas and those in January 2022.

The Misa de Gallo and New Year midnight masses have been approved by the City Hall, but physical distancing and other health standards will still be implemented to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Mayor Michael Rama also did not ban political activities but they should submit their Pandemic Related Contingency Plan and Action Plan to the Cebu City Emergency Operations Center for approval.

Limited face-to-face classes are now allowed in cities under Alert Levels 1, 2 and 3, provided that only 50 percent of the original capacity of the venue will be allowed inside.

The teachers, non-teaching personnel and students should also be vaccinated.

This, after the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Health issued a joint memorandum circular on the gradual reopening of classes in colleges.

Contact sports are also allowed under the new directive but only those vaccinated can participate and if the group live in the same barangay, among other provisions.

Street trader or ambulant vendors are allowed to sell but only in areas designated by the Garbo Asenso Sumbanan Alyansa under the Office of the Mayor.

Under the same directive, Rama allows the opening of all establishments but only 50 percent of the total capacity and only vaccinated ones are allowed indoors, and 70 percent of the total capacity for outdoors.

Starting Jan. 1, 2022, only those vaccinated will be allowed to enter indoor and outdoor establishments such as karaoke bars, clubs, concert halls, theaters, licensure exam venues and permitted venues for social events such as parties and in-person religious gatherings like funerals. Despite the many changes, wearing of masks, physical distancing and other health protocols will still be in place. (PAC / CCP)
