HOME-COOKING (Lutong Bahay) enthusiasts showed their cooking skills in the culinary contest marking as one of the highlights in the 458th Founding Anniversary of Dapitan City by Datu Pagbuaya.
The culinary contest, dubbed Flavours of Dapitan 2021, was held Monday, November 29, and was facilitated by the Dapitan City Tourism Office.
Apple Marie Agolong, Dapitan City tourism officer, said in a phone interview Thursday, December 2, that Flavours of Dapitan is a fusion of Subanen, Bohol, and Spanish cuisine.
“We have three categories that include kakanin, native chicken, and seafood,” Agolong said.
Agolong said the Ube Buchi by Alyssa Anne Suarez and company emerged as the champion in the kakanin category.
She said the Royal Bibingkinitas by Ma. Elena Qiuao and company and Mixed Kakanin by Maria Luz Omac and company landed as the first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.
“It is their family business. They also accept orders from customers,” Agolong said of the participants in the kakanin category.
She said the prizes of the winners in the Kakanin Category are the following: champion, P5,000, giveaways worth P2,000 and P500 allowance each since there are two members per team.
The Arnold Constantino team dominated in the other two categories—native chicken and seafood—with entries of Hamonada con Embutido and Rhum Spice Stir-fried Shrimp, respectively.
The first runner-up in the native chicken and mixed seafood categories is the team of Richard Jumawan with their specialty of Halang-Halang ala Tambay and Shrimp Salvatore, respectively.
The team of Joseph Balladares won as the second runner-up in both native chicken and seafood categories.
Team Balladares’ entry in the native chicken category is Pata Tim Style and Mixed Seafood in the seafood category.
The prizes in the Native Chicken and Seafood cooking competition are as follows: champion, P10,000, giveaways worth P2,000, and P500 allowance each; first runner-up, P5,000, and P500 allowance each; and second runner-up, P3,000 and P500 allowance each.
There were four consolation winners in the Kakanin category while three winners each were in the Native Chicken and Seafood categories.
The consolation winners in the Kakanin category received P1,000 each while P1,500 each for the native chicken and seafood category.
Agolong said the 458th Founding Anniversary celebration highlights the arrival of a group of Boholanos to Dapitan City led by Datu Pagbuaya in 1563 and made the place their permanent settlement. (SunStar Zamboanga)
