ONE died while five others were injured in a freak accident involving a canter truck and a tricycle in Pontevedra town, Negros Occidental Thursday, December 2, 2021.
Captain Hancel Lumandaz, acting town police chief, identified the fatality as Joselyn Dumalag, who died on her way to a hospital at the nearby La Carlota City.
Initial investigation showed that the canter truck driven by Nolito Montebon, 42, of Purok Boulevard at Barangay 14 in Bacolod City, was heading south of the road when one of the front tires exploded upon reaching the area of Barangay San Juan.
Montebon lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve to the left and occupy the lane and collide with the approaching tricycle driven by Rogin delos Pobres, 34, investigation added.
Lumandaz said due to the strong impact, the tricycle banged into a concrete wall beside the road while the canter rammed into the steel gate of a residence.
Delos Pobres, Montebon, the passengers of the truck and the other passenger of the tricycle, who were not named, were treated at a hospital in La Carlota City.
Witnesses said the canter was speeding prior to the accident.
