“IT'S inhuman.”

That was how Bacolod Councilor Al Victor Espino, chair of the City Council committee on police matters, described the killing of a nine-year-old girl in the city in November as he condemned such a heinous crime.

Espino said Sunday, December 5, that the police should ensure that the suspect will not be released from his detention cell.

He said he is willing to provide a lawyer to the family of the victim to prosecute the suspect.

“We believe in the rule of law and this case should be prioritized by the police. I will extend my personal resources to help the family of the victim and there should be no settlement with the suspect, who is a friend of her father,” he added.

Espino said the suspect should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Police Major Leo Estopa, commander of Police Station 6, said they already filed rape with murder charges against Sherwin Trava, 32, of Barangay Lag-asan in Bago City.

The suspect was detained at the station.

On November 26, the suspect went to the victim’s house in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City and brought her with him allegedly to buy bread.

It added that instead of buying bread, the two went to Barangay Taculing where Trava was supposed to meet his girlfriend.

He got mad after seeing his girlfriend entering a motel with somebody else.

This, he said, triggered him to commit the crime, the police added.

The suspect hit the victim with a stone on the head and left her at a vacant lot in City Heights Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, police records showed.
