VVOC awaits full RT-PCR test results of 120 persons under monitoring for Omicron variant

SOME of the 120 persons who arrived in Central Visayas from countries with confirmed cases of the Omicron variant tested negative for Covid-19, the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) reported on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021.

VVOC spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, however, did not divulge the specific number of the individuals whose reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests yielded negative results.

Not all of the 120 persons have submitted their RT-PCR test results. These individuals are mostly overseas Filipino workers and returning overseas Filipinos who are residing in different local government units (LGU) in Central Visayas.

Central Visayas groups Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

Loreche said their monitoring on the 120 individuals has continued.

The monitoring period, she said, will end 14 days from the day of their arrival in their LGUs.

The 120 arrivals from Nov. 15 to Nov. 29, 2021 entered the Ninoy Aquino International Airport with travel histories from Austria, Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands, South Africa or Switzerland. These persons went home to their home provinces in Central Visayas after they were permitted to go home.

Persons with a history of travel to South Africa must do a 14-day quarantine in a facility, and they have to do a retesting or re-swabbing whether they have symptoms or not.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Nov. 26, 2021 designated the variant B.1.1.529 as a variant of concern and named it Omicron, on the advice of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution.
