(UPDATED) A BOMB maker of the Daulah Islamiya (DI) surrendered to the government through the joint efforts of the security forces and Municipal Government of Carmen, North Cotabato on Sunday, December 5, 2021, military officials said Tuesday, December 7.

Joint Task Force Central and 6th Infantry Division commander Major General Juvymax Uy said in a statement that the terror group member was one of the high-value targets of the government troops.

He refused, however, to reveal the person’s identity for security reasons and safety of his family.

The surrenderer turned himself to Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Mundala, 90th Infantry Battalion commander, and yielded a 7.62 M14 rifle.

Mundala presented the DI surrender to Colonel Jovencio Gonzales, 602nd Infantry Brigade commander, at Camp Lucero, home of the brigade headquarters in Carmen, North Cotabato.

“This surrender was a joint effort of the military and police forces in coordination with the local government unit of Carmen, North Cotabato,” Gonzales said.

Uy said the DI surrenderer will be enrolled with the Diwata Haven (Dapat Iwaksi at Wakasan ang Terorismo at Armadong Pakikibaka-Hadlangan ang Violent Extremism) Program of North Cotabato Provincial Government.

He said the former DI member is also set to receive livelihood packages and assistance in order to live a sustainable and peaceful life with his family. (SunStar Zamboanga/Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo)
