ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas has passed the admission to the Asia Pacific Mayors Academy backed by the United Nations (UN).

“On behalf of the organizers, we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as a fellow in the 2021-2022 Academy class,” stated a letter from the secretariat based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (Escap) and UN-Habitat, in partnership with the United Nations University-Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS); the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (Apru), United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG Aspac) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (Iges), the Academy seeks to build the capacities of newly elected or appointed city mayors/governors in Asia and the Pacific region, fostering a network of leaders and facilitating peer-to-peer learning.

“Congratulations on your selection to be a fellow! We look forward to hopefully working with you on this exciting initiative, and to welcoming you to the 2020-2021 Academy class,” wrote Kaveh Zahedi, deputy executive secretary and officer-in-charge of Environment and Development Division, Escap; and Atsushi Koresawa, representative of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of UN Habitat.
