A DAY after she was hit by a stray bullet, a one-year-old girl in Barangay Caduha-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental died while being treated in a hospital in Bacolod City.
Jason Abayon, the infant’s father, said that at around 5 p.m. Sunday, December 5, his wife, whose name was not disclosed, was breastfeeding their daughter inside their house in Purok Malunao when they heard a loud pop in the wall.
His wife then saw their daughter bleeding on the head, prompting them to bring the child to a clinic at the neighboring town in Manapla.
The child was later brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City where she died on Monday night, December 6.
Police Lieutenant Alfonso Precia, deputy police chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said Norman Ayan Berto, 48, surrendered to the police Tuesday morning, December 7.
Precia said the suspect admitted that he was responsible for firing the gun.
Berto is prepared to execute an "extra judicial confession" to take responsibility over the incident, he added.
Some of Berto's neighbors also spotted him discharging his firearm during that time.
Police are still gathering pieces of evidence and yet to recover the .45 caliber pistol of the suspect.
