Zero Covid-19 cases recorded in BJMP, Bucor jail facilities

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) have zero coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases among persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

BJMP spokesperson Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said the BJMP recorded zero Covid-19 cases among PDLs over the past eight days.

“Even with a zero record on Covid-19 cases in our jails, we will continue to strictly implement our health protocols to ensure the health and wellness of PDLs under our care,” said Solda.

Solda said the agency so far recorded a total of 4,672 Covid-19 cases among our PDLs wherein 4,552 are now fully recovered.

He said 50 PDLs with comorbidities succumbed to the virus.

In terms of vaccination, the official said 119,070 out of 125,589 PDLS in BJMP-controlled facilities in the country were already vaccinated.

He said 95,813 of which were fully vaccinated.

“As previously mentioned by Chief, BJMP Jail Director Allan Iral, we are optimistic that before the end of the year, lahat po ng ating mga PDL ay ating mapapabakunahan,” said Solda.

Meanwhile, in a televised interview on Tuesday, December 6, Bucor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said there were also no Covid-19 cases among PDLs in Bucor-controlled jail facilities while there were two personnel currently recovering from the infection.

He said 77 percent of PDLs in jail facilities nationwide were already vaccinated.

“Mas mataas kesa sa number of personnel na nabakunahan na,” said Chaclag.

The BJMP and Bucor officials both expressed gratitude to the continuous support of the National Government and local government units in their ongoing vaccination drive. (SunStar Philippines)
