Basilan BRT snaps losing streak, beats Kapatagan in VisMin Cup

THE Basilan BRT Peace Riders finally ended their long six-game losing streak after they edged the Kapatagan Buffalos, 65-63, in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Challenge on Dec. 7, 2021 at the Pagadian City Gymnasium.

Trailing by 15 points after Darwin Lunor’s layup, the Buffalos went on a 14-0 run to slice the gap to just a point, 61-62 with 1:05 remaining in the game.

However, Jorem Morada ended that drought with an and-one with 43.8 ticks left to extend Basilan’s lead to four, 65-61. Richard Kwong made a layup with 11.6 seconds to go, 63-65, but time was not on the Buffalos’ side as the Peace Riders ran away with the win.

“I was worried a bit in the fourth quarter, but we pulled off a win,” said Basilan head coach Ron Jalmanzar.

The Peace Riders improved to 4-6, still at sixth place while pulling the Buffalos to 6-4, tied with Zamboanga Sibugay at second.

Homegrown player Jayvee Ansaldo led Basilan with 15 points, six rebounds, one steal, and one block.

Darwin Lunor had his best game this conference with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Nikko Panganiban added 11 points.

Jonel Bonganciso had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Kapatagan, while Edrian Lao chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kwong chalked up 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
