A FRENCH bakeshop in Tacloban City has created a buzz after it started selling tinapa beignet, pastillas de leche tarts, and chocolate moron puffs, all original fusion pastry that are unique food delicacies of Leyte and Samar.

“We wanted to highlight what Region 8 is famous for to also create more awareness about our region’s delicacies and open the eyes of foodies that this can also be included in local dishes such as French pastries,” said Apple Anido Alagon, owner of Brewbaker Artisan Bread and Pastry Shop located along P. Burgos Street, Tacloban.

“Among all the local shops, there is no French Bakery or French Boulangerie in the city and we know, despite the pandemic, Tacloban is ready for an artisan shop, specializing in French bakery,” Alagon added.

The delicacies, which are placed in original signature Ley-Sam pasalubong boxes, are available for preorder.

According to Alagon, she is “proud” to have started selling specialty bread in the city.

At least four other shops have also followed the trend, she added.

Alagon’s brother, Chef Derrick Anido, came up with the business concept as he recognized the need for it in the Eastern Visayas region.

Anido graduated from the Art Institute of California-Orange County with honors in 2018 with a distinct recognition as a member of the Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Society.

“No one sells the same. It’s the first in Tacloban in a French Bakeshop,” Alagon said.

“Be the first to put your discerning taste to the test. Delight in one, or two and come back for more,” added Alagon while urging the public to “celebrate the treasures and spread the delights” of Leyte and Samar.
