TOWNS in northern Cebu are experiencing strong winds and moderate rainfall as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan issued an orange warning level at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021.

In a text message sent to SunStar Cebu, Medellin Mayor Joven Mondigo Jr. said that pump boats and fast craft trips are canceled.

Mondigo further said that personnels of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Philippine Coastguard are on alert for possible preemptive evacuation in disaster prone areas.

In the Municipality of Daanbantayan, Mayor Sun Shimura announced on his Facebook page the suspension of all public classes Thursday.

Based on the advisory released by Pagasa, the "shear line" will cause light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in the Visayas Region.

The public is advised to take precautionary measures especially those who are living in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. People living in mountainous areas that are vulnerable to landslides are also advised to be on alert. (IRT)
