CONVICTED murderer, former policeman Jonel Nuezca may have died of cardiac arrest, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

“The preliminary report of the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) indicates that Nuezca died of cardiac arrest,” Guevarra said in a message to reporters.

Nuezca died on December 1 after he was brought unconscious by his fellow detainees at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) hospital.

Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag earlier ruled out foul play in Nuezca’s death but his body was still subjected to autopsy examination for the identification of his cause of death.

In August, the Tarlac Regional Trial Court sentenced Nuezca to life imprisonment over the murder of his neighbors in Paniqui on December 2020.

Nuezca shot in the head Sonya Gregorio and her son, Frank Anthony, following a verbal altercation over a “boga” explosion and right-of-way dispute.

The incident was caught on video, which circulated online. (SunStar Philippines)
