AFTER a year of having fluctuating number of cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Candaba town in Pampanga was finally able to clear all its active cases as of Wednesday, December 8.
This was announced by Mayor Rene Maglanque, saying the municipality logged zero active Covid-19 case on the said day, which was far from the situation in the past months when the active Covid-19 cases reached 200 in a single day.
The mayor credited the positive development to the aggressive vaccination drive implemented by the local government.
"Simula nung nagkaroon ng supply ng vaccine, tuloy-tuloy na ang pagbakuna namin dito sa Candaba at noong sinabi na Governor Dennis Pineda na magbukas ng maraming bakunahan, nagbukas kami ng anim na pwesto, at ng drive-thru at walk-in vaccination centers para mas mapabilis ang pagbabakuna," he said.
As of Wednesday, December 8, Maglanque said that some 58,000 individuals out of the 84,000 target population in town were already vaccinated.
He also cited the efforts of and expressed gratitude to the frontliners who are leading the vaccination drive, the assistance of volunteers such as teachers and local government employees, and the cooperation of every Candabeños who had themselves jabbed to protect themselves, their family and community from Covid-19.
"Nagpapasalamat tayo sa sakripisyo ng ating mga frontliners simula pa noong simula ng pandemya. Ngayon tuloy-tuloy ang programa namin para mas mahikayat iyong mga ayaw at tamad magpabakuna. Gusto natin ipaintindi na bakuna ang solusyon para makabalik na tayo sa normal na buhay at ito ay ligtas at subok na," he said.
Maglanque, meanwhile, reminded Candabeños that health protocols will also continuously be implemented, and their observance and cooperation is still needed.
Aside from the vaccination drive, Maglanque said the local government is putting focus on ensuring that the virus, especially the new Omicron variant, will not infect any Candabeño again.
"Nakikita natin ngayon iyong epekto ng pagsunod sa health protocols at pagpapabakuna kaya ituluy-tuloy lang natin para tuluy-tuloy na rin tayong makabalik sa normal na buhay," he said.
As of Wednesday, the town had total confirmed Covid-19 cases of 1,766, of which 1,667 were recoveries and 99 were fatalities.
