THE 11th Infantry Division has awarded Wounded Personnel Medal (WPM) to four soldiers of the 45th Infantry Battalion and a militiaman for gallantry in the fight against the Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sulu.

The recipients of the WPM were Corporal Sydney Tangguiyac, Private Aljade Jamjiron, Private Brayan Marfe, Private Edmun Ferrer, and militiaman Nadzmir Majili.

Each of them also received P20,000 cash gifts from Major General William Gonzales, 11ID commander, who led the awarding of medal Monday, December 6, at Camp Navarro General Hospital, Zamboanga City.

Gonzales said the medal awardees were injured during a clash against some 30 Abu Sayyaf bandits led by Radullan Sahiron on Sunday, December 5, in Danag and Maligay villages, Patikul, Sulu.

“We thank you for your service and sacrifices. Know that the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Filipinos are proud of you,” Gonzales said.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Alfredo Rosario, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command, commended the 11ID troopers for your continuous dedication and selfless service to the country and people.

“May the recognition (award) be an added motivation in your efforts to quell terrorism in Sulu,” Rosario added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
