Ahong to give ‘Quincentennial’ bonus for City Hall workers

LAPU-LAPU City Government workers will get a Quincentennial bonus that will serve as City Hall’s Christmas gift to them.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan announced Tuesday, December 7, that the Quincentennial bonus would amount to one month salary for regular, casual and co-terminus employees.

Job order workers have not been left out as they would receive “differential pay, at P50 per day starting January to December this year, which is approximately P13,200 each,” the city’s public information office said.

Earlier this year, the City had allocated funds to give to its employees as bonuses during the 500th Quincentennial celebration last April.

But in June, Chan decided to delay the release of the bonus due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

He said then that he wanted the City to save some money, as its collections had not yet improved since the pandemic began and it was prioritizing spending for the Covid-19 response.

He promised that the bonus would be released within the year, though.

The Quincentennial refers to the celebration of the 500th year of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines on April 14, 2021.

Covid-19 cases in the country, as well as in the city, have since dropped. As of Dec. 9, Lapu-Lapu had only 10 active cases, according to the Department of Health Central Visayas case bulletin.
