THE 19th Davao City Council approved on third and final reading the ordinance that would double the burial assistance of World War II veterans from P10,000 to P20,000.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, committee chairperson on finance, ways and means, and appropriations, lobbied the ordinance as an amendment to the existing Ordinance No. 018-01, series of 2001, also known as “An Ordinance Granting Burial Assistance to World War II [and Korean War] Veterans in the amount of P10,000.”

The new ordinance, which would be called the Davao City Veterans Welfare and Veterans Program, will grant an increase in burial assistance and reduce the requirements for claiming such assistance.

Dayanghirang said the ordinance was in response to the request of Office for Senior Citizens Affairs district president Luis Moran and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines Sons and Daughters Association.

This would also include the war heroes of the Korean Peninsula War.

The ordinance did not have any opposition during the committee hearing, but Dayanghirang said this is for as long as there is enough funding.
