OVER 1,600 people have been stranded in various seaports in areas affected by Typhoon Odette (international name Rai), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

The PCG said 879 rolling cargoes, 13 vessels and two motor bancas were also stranded in seaports in Bicol, North Eastern Mindanao and Eastern Visayas due to the bad weather.

It said 61 vessels and 52 motor bancas took shelter as a precautionary measure against the threat of Odette.

The eastern portion of Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) Number 2 due to the typhoon.

Several other areas were under TWCS Number 1.

The PCG earlier cancelled all sea ventures in the areas expected to be hit by the weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has alerted all its units over the possible effects of the typhoon.

Pre-emptive evacuations have been conducted in areas critical for flooding, landslide and storm surges. (SunStar Philippines)
