AT LEAST 50 people were killed in the province of Bohol due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai), the provincial government said on Saturday evening, December 18, 2021.

Of the casualties, eight were from Ubay town, five each in President Carlos P. Garcia and Loon, four each in Inabanga and Catigbian, three each in Valencia, Tubigon and Alicia, two from Batuan, Antequera, Maribojoc, Calape and Jagna and one each in Lia Pilar, Talibon, Loboc and Candijay.

The towns of Tagbilaran, Dauis and Balilihan reported no casualties.

The provincial government said the reported deaths were submitted by the local government units and were verified by the local police.

Bohol was among the areas battered hard by Typhoon Odette.

Bohol Governor Arthur Yap placed the province under a state of calamity on Friday due to the wreckage of the weather disturbance.

Many lost their homes and were displaced due to the Typhoon.

“As we end Day 2 after Typhoon Odette made landfall in Bohol, it is very clear that the damage sustained by Bohol is great and all-encompassing,” Yap said in a statement early Sunday morning, December 19.

“In an aerial survey I took with the Philippine Air Force over the coastal towns of northern Bohol up to Inabanga, it is very clear that our people have suffered greatly in terms of destroyed homes, and agricultural losses,” he added.

Yap said he will conduct another aerial survey today in Ubay, Talibon, Bien Unido and Carlos P. Garcia, which were the landfall points of Odette.

He said communication lines in the province remained down noting that only 21 out of the 48 mayors were able to reach and report to them.

He said the local government officials of Inabanga, Loboc, Batuan and Carlos P. Garcia have already asked for food assistance.

Yap said the provincial government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development will immediately send food packs, especially water to these municipalities.
