4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion gets new commander

ZAMBOANGA. THE 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade has recently implemented changes in the leadership of one of its line units, the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion.

Installed as the new commander of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion is Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Marlon Famoso, a former executive officer of 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade and a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sanghaya” Class of 2000.

He replaced Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Pereña, a member of the PMA “Kalasag-Lahi” Class of 1997.

Colonel Rey Alemania, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade commander, presided the turnover of command earlier this week held at the headquarters of 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte.

Pereña, during his stint as the battalion commander, has introduced dynamic innovations and new concepts that greatly contributed to the unit’s mission accomplishment.

Under his leadership, the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion received numerous awards from inter-battalion competitions to include awards in the 12th Armor Division Squad Challenge, Song Writing Competition and Photography Contest.

With his unwavering dedication to the service, Pere1ña likewise steered the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion to another milestone for completing the 4L-V Army Governance Pathway Proficient Stage Bid earning an impressive overall rating of 96.73 percent.

“I am proud to say that for the last decade, 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion has played a big part in the maintenance of peace in the area where every two years a major conflict is happening. So on the aspect of mission accomplishment, it is accomplished,” Pereña said.

“It’s been a pleasure working as commander of the unit, and I will genuinely miss it. I take with me fond memories, valuable skills and I hope one day leave an impression on others similar to the one you have left on me,” he added.

On the other hand, Famoso served as the executive officer of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade and who, once an executive officer of the battalion way back in 2014.

“My assumption of the command as the commanding officer of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion provides me a rare opportunity and challenge in my military career...to the men and women of this battalion, I hope with God’s divine guidance that I will be a servant leader that you can always rely on as we hurdle together the road of peace and as we transform into a modern and respected army.” Famoso said.
