TROOPS of the Joint Task Force Zamboanga have seized a shipment of smuggled cigarettes on an east coast village of Zamboanga City, a military official announced.

Lieutenant Colonel Julius Villena, 74th Infantry Battalion commander, said the smuggled cigarettes consisting of 800 reams were seized around 9 p.m. Monday, December 20, in Curuan village, east of Zamboanga City.

The 74th Infantry Battalion is one of the operating units under the Joint Task Force Zamboanga.

Villena said the smuggled cigarettes were intercepted while the team from his battalion was conducting random checkpoint in Curuan.

Neither the driver nor passenger, who are both residents of Santa Catalina village, Zamboanga City, failed to present pertinent documents for the items, thus, the confiscation, according to Villena.

He said they coordinated with the Zamboanga City Police Office’s Station 2 for documentation and proper disposition of the smuggled items. (SunStar Zamboanga)
