OVER two months since a massive fire hit Purok 5 in Recodo village, Zamboanga City, the 500 affected families are returning home.

This came following a series of consultations and negotiations between and among the concerned parties, facilitated by the City Government through the City Housing and Land Management Division.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led the distribution on Monday, December 20, of cash assistance and “pabaon” to the families temporarily sheltered at the Recodo National High School Covered Court.

The distribution of cash assistance marked the start of the families' return to their places of origin, according to Salazar.

The fire incident on October 13, 2021, left hundreds of families homeless in Recodo.

Since then, the displaced families have been sheltering at the Recodo National High School Covered Court.

With their return to their places in Purok 5, Recodo, the temporary evacuation center will eventually be closed, Salazar said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
