Public warned to be vigilant against counterfeit banknotes

AS THE holiday season kicks in, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has advised the public to remain vigilant when receiving banknotes by carefully checking the security features to ensure their authenticity.

The BSP is verifying reports circulating in messaging apps and social media platforms on the alleged counterfeit 1000-Piso New Generation Currency banknotes with the same serial number and all ending in -2507.

“All persons responsible for the manufacture and proliferation of these counterfeit banknotes to the public will be investigated, prosecuted, and dealt with accordingly by law. As such, re-posting or further sharing of this photo or corresponding message on social media with malicious intent is highly discouraged,” the BSP said Wednesday, December 22, 2021.

The BSP is asking the public to report persons involved in the manufacture and/or distribution of counterfeit currency.

It said the public may reach the BSP Payments and Currency Investigation Group at email address pcig@bsp.gov.ph. / PR
