CLAIRE Valerie Cabardo, who works as a contractual worker for the Talisay City Government, had faced misfortunes just before Christmas Day came.

Though Cabardo’s house in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City only incurred minor damage when Typhoon Odette struck the city on Dec. 16, 2021, Cabardo’s misfortune further worsened when fire struck her house on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

But Cabardo, who works as a member of the non-uniformed personnel of the Talisay City Police Station, got the biggest surprise of her life when she received P16,000 in cash aid from her boss, Lt. Col. Randy Caballes, and her colleagues to help her rebuild her life.

Caballes told SunStar Cebu that he and the rest of his station’s personnel decided to help Cabando and her family.

Turnover

Caballes formally turned over the money to Cabardo during a meeting with his personnel on Monday, Dec. 27.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr., who was also present during the meeting, also gave Cabando cash to help her.

Cabardo, in response, was thankful to Caballes, to her colleagues at the station and to Gullas for the assistance.

Cabardo said she and her mother, who is also a job order worker at City Hall, can use the money to rebuild their lives after the twin tragedies that befell on them.
