WATER supply in six barangays in Consolacion town, northern Cebu has been partially restored as of Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
These barangays are Cansaga, Casili, Pitogo, Lamac and Pulpogan.
The partial restoration of water supply in these villages was due to the partial restoration of electricity in Consolacion, a municipality of 21 barangays.
Mayor Joannes "Joyjoy" Alegado was assured by Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) officials during their meeting that the water utility firm will set up generator sets so it could pump more water.
Consolacion is one of the local government units (LGUs) in Cebu devastated by Typhoon Odette (Rai) on Thursday evening, December 16.
To ease the burden of residents, the Consolacion Municipal Government has started rationing water. This is participated by MCWD, Manila Water and Alegado Fire Volunteers; and private companies David Justin Aggregates, Gonzalodo Enterprises and South Tiger.
The Consolacion LGU also received water from the LGUs of Daanbantayan led by Mayor Sun Shimura and Santa Fe led by Mayor Ithamar Espinosa.
Power supply
Electricity has started to return in Consolacion.
Visayan Electric Company reenergized Mendero Medical Center, Consolacion Government Center and portion of Cebu North Road on December 25; portions of Barangay Pitogo, Cebu Central Highway and Barangay Poblacion Occidental on December 26; portions of Tayud Coastal Road and Laray Road on December 28.
Visayan Electric's substation in Barangay Poblacion has reenergized, but its backbone power lines along the national highway are still being checked for any damage.
Visayan Electric officials told Mayor Alegado during their meeting that the power utility firm will prioritize restoring power supply in public markets, slaughterhouses, gas and water refilling stations and essential establishments in Cebu Province as it was the directive of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during a meeting with local executives and stakeholders last December 22.
Linemen from Visayan Electric have been continuing the repair on downed power lines in Consolacion. They also received help from linemen of Dagupan Electric Corp. and Tarlac Electric Company, among others. (KAL)
