Cordillera teams up vs tough softball open visitors

FIVE local softball squads are set for the 2010 National Softball Open today, Sunday at two separate venues.

Benguet RnR’s mettle will be tested when it faces visiting Rizal Technological University in the men’s action, while Saint Louis University of Baguio will try its luck against the national squad Cebuana Lhuiller Blu Girls in the second game.

The La Trinidad All Stars, meanwhile, faces MS Marikina and SLU will again see action against Cavite Province with host squad Baguio squaring off against Dasmariñas Cavite also in the men’s division to be played at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

Adamson and Rizal Province will square off in the opening game of the women’s division to be played at the Melvin Jones grandstand and on deck for the second game will be between Besao, Mt. Province and Mama Sita UP Fighting Maroons.

Bulacan State University will also see action later today against RTU while the University of the Cordilleras squares off against Polytechnic University of the Philippines with Adamson Cavite squaring off with Bulacan State University later in the afternoon.

Twenty-three teams will see action in the weeklong tournament which includes defending men’s champion Philippine Air Force leading the big field.

Benguet Capital, one of the local squads will also see action in the tournament organized by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines.

The Pampanga Legends, the reigning women’s titlists, however, begged off from participating in the event but reigning UAAP champion University of Santo Tomas heads the 11-team women’s division.

UAAP teams include Mama Sita’s-University of the Philippines tandem, 2009 second best team Adamson University, Rizal Technical University, Bulacan State University, Adamson-Dasmariñas of Cavite, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Kabenguetan of Benguet Province will also be in the stellar cast.
