THE Mandaue City Government will not appeal the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to place the city under the Alert Level 3 status, an escalation from Alert Level 2, starting January 14 to January 31, 2022.
Lawyer John Eddu Ibañez, executive secretary to Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, said the latter is not keen on implementing a lockdown and will only follow the guidelines set by the IATF concerning the status.

"Si Mayor pagkagahapon, [said] there’s no need to appeal kay makita man nato nga nisaka ang kaso. Para sad ni nga mapaaus-os nato ang kaso," he said, adding that the move by the IATF was based on the city’s positivity rate.
Based on the data from the Department of Health, Mandaue City logged 33 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, January 12, bringing the total number of active cases to 176.
On the other hand, Councilor Joel Garganera, Cebu City's Emergency Operations Center's deputy implementer said he is not inclined to appeal the IATF decision.
"It's just an exercise of futility and we might as well focus our attention opn rebuilding our city from the typhoon," Garganera said./ with PAC
