DESPITE the city being placed under Alert Level 3 from January 14 to 31, the Davao City Government still extended the modified guidelines of the liquor ban and the lifting of curfew within the city until June 30, 2022.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio issued Executive Order (EO) 1 series of 2022, extending EO 59-A series of 2021, also known as "An Order Extending Until June 30, 2022, The Modified Guidelines On Liquor Ban And The Lifting Of Curfew Within The City," on January 12, 2022. EO 59-A is set to lapse on January 15.
This came a day after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) said the city would be elevated to Alert Level 3 effective January 14 until January 31.
Duterte-Carpio said the city has a total of 811 active cases as of January 12, according to the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao Covid-19 Regional Daily Case Bulletin, raising the total cases since March 2020 to 54,700.
Of the number, 52,094 have since recovered and 1,795 succumbed to the disease.
According to the Covid-19 Task Force, the city is currently at 95.52 percent for first doses and 90.24 percent for second doses of its target number of inoculations as of January 10.
The EO bans the selling of liquor from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day. No person or entity shall sell liquor or any alcoholic beverages during this period.
EO 1 also mandates a 24-hour daily ban on serving liquor for consumption in bars, restaurants, sari-sari stores, wet markets, videoke, and other business establishments; and drinking liquor in public places, including, but not limited to streets, alleys, pathways, and outside of gates.
Liquor may only be served and consumed inside private properties.
Meanwhile, the curfew time in all public places in the city is also lifted.
Duterte-Carpio had already announced in a radio interview on January 3 that the City Government is not keen on allowing Dabawenyos to drink liquor in public places anytime soon.
Duterte-Carpio said drinking in public places might be vulnerable to the transmission of the Covid-19 virus.
"Sa pagkakaron, wala pa na siya. Ang pag-inom man gud sa public isa na siya sa mga activities nga magdugay ang mga tao magtapok and isa pud siya sa mga activities nga naga-tanggal usually og mask ug continuous ang interaction sa mga tao (For now, we are not allowing it. Drinking in public places is one of the activities wherein people gather for a long period of time. During this time, they would usually remove their masks to interact with one another)," the mayor said in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.
