39,000 fresh Covid-19 cases set new high for PH

FOR the third straight day, the Philippines has set a new record high in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases with over 39,000 new infections reported Saturday, January 15, 2022.

Based on the Saturday case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said 39,004 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Saturday, bringing the total cases in the country to 3,168,379.

On January 13, the country registered a single-day high of 34,021 new Covid-19 cases, only to be topped by the 37,207 infections on January 14.

The positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 47.1 percent, based on the 78,774 tested samples on January 13.

The DOH also reported 43 additional mortalities, increasing the total death toll to 52,858.

The case fatality rate in the country stood at 1.67 percent.

The health department also reported 23,613 additional recoveries, which brought the total to 2,834,708 survivors.

The recovery rate stood at 89.5 percent.

Less deaths and recoveries, the Philippines now has 280,813 active Covid-19 cases.

Majority of the active cases, with over 267,000, were mild cases, followed by more than 8,900 asymptomatic cases. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
