THE Lapu-Lapu City Government will start accepting applicants for its free technical skills training on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan announced on his Facebook page Friday, Jan. 14, that the Technical Education And Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has provided the City with 300 slots for the skills training that can be availed by individuals badly affected by Typhoon Odette (Rai), which hit the city and other parts of Cebu on Thursday evening, Dec. 16, 2021.

Chan said Tesda Director General Isidro Lapeña offered the training program after the secretary personally visited the Island of Olango last Jan. 13 and witnessed the devastation caused by the typhoon.

The courses offered are carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, small engine repair and bread-baking.

There will be 50 slots per course, and the slots will be given evenly among residents in the mainland and residents in island barangays, Chan said.

Aside from the free training, a P160 daily allowance will also be given to each of the beneficiaries, Chan said.

“This can be used for your daily needs or as capital to start a business that is related to your course,” Chan said in Cebuano.

Interested individuals can have themselves registered at the Office of the Mayor in the City Hall and at the Mini City Hall in Olango Island.

Chan also announced that a batch of trainees for the wellness massage training in Olango will graduate next week and they will be able to receive their certificates and cash allowance.

The City, Tesda’s partner, has already offered free training for welding and wellness massage to around 190 individuals in December 2021.
