SUBDIVISION homeowners in Lapu-Lapu City denied allegations that they were bribing linemen of Mactan Electric Cooperative (Meco) to prioritize the restoration of electricity in their area.

Meco posted on their Facebook page Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, that the board of directors of Sunberry Homeowners Association located in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City sent a letter to inform their office that the group is open for further investigation and it offers full cooperation.

This was after Meco received a complaint from an officer of a different subdivision that an employee of the electric provider asked for P20,000 so that their place would be energized immediately.

The alleged Meco employee told the complainant that Sunberry Subdivision gave the same amount that resulted in the immediate restoration of their electricity.

“Ang maong officer sa subdivision nitaho dayon sa Meco hinungdan nga gipatawag dayon ang opisyales sa Sunberry para imbestigahan ug masuta kon unsa ka tinuod apan ilang gihimakak ang maong pasangil,” read a portion of Meco’s Facebook post.

The subdivision officer immediately reported to Meco and Sunberry officials were called for an investigation to find out if there was truth to the allegation, but they denied the allegation.

The Sunberry Homeowners Association’s board of directors assured that it did not make any transaction to any personnel or subcontractor of Meco that would expedite the restoration of electrical power within its subdivision.
