Guagua village chief shot dead

SANTO Nino Barangay Captain Rainer Asban was shot dead on Monday, January 17, 2022, by a lone assassin, police said.

Asban sustained three gunshot wounds to the head, cheek, and arm. He was shot dead at 9 p.m. in front of a gas station in the City of San Fernando.

The killer reportedly shot Asban while he was talking on his mobile phone. The 45-year-old official is not running for any government post this 2022.

The gunman walked away toward a feeder road in Barangay Sto. Cristo, also in the town of Guagua, after killing the victim.

Brigadier General Matthew Baccay, Police Regional Office-Central Luzon director, said the suspect was wearing a black T-shirt, short parts and surgical face mask. He is now the subject of manhunt operation launched by Guagua police.

The barangay that he led covers areas of the Guagua Public Market.

Police are now investigating the motives in the killing.
