7 nabbed for gun ban in Eastern Visayas

POLICE arrested seven personalities in Eastern Visayas for alleged violation of the nationwide Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban during the first eight days of implementation starting January 9 to January 16, 2022.

In the information released by the Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas, the violators were identified as Raul Sinambong, Eddie Mendoza, Marvin Trani, Romy Catalan, Willmar Cabangonay, Romeo Mugas and Levi Gonzaga.

"Let us all cooperate in this policy as this is to pre-empt possible chaos if not implemented religiously and properly," said Brigadier General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot, police regional director.

The official also directed the police units to “arrest all the violators regardless of their social status.”

According to the police regional command, the seven alleged violators were apprehended through the conduct of checkpoints, implementation of search warrants, and police response.

Authorities confiscated five small firearms, three deadly weapons, and 30 pieces of ammunition during the incidents.

The arrested persons along with the confiscated items were brought to their respective police stations for documentation and proper disposition.
