Lerasan sees action in Thailand

ADRIAN Lerasan sees action in Thailand for the third straight time as he challenges World Boxing Council (WBC) ABC super flyweight champion Phongsaphon Panyakum on Feb. 26, 2022 in Bangkok.

Lerasan has earned quite a reputation in Thailand for beating Thais in their own backyard. The 22-year-old Filipino prospect stopped previously unbeaten and two-time Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Tanes Ongjunta in eight rounds in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super flyweight fight in 2020. He returned to Thailand in 2021 and knocked out Suradech Ruhasiri in the fifth round of their WBC ABC Continental super flyweight bout.

Lerasan’s last loss was in 2019, wherein he was outclassed by undefeated prospect Dave Apolinario. Since the loss, Lerasan has won three straight fights.

On the other hand, Panyakum had a rough start to his pro career after getting knocked out in his pro debut by Kai Ishizawa in the fifth round in Japan in 2017. He’s been on a hot streak, winning his last 12 fights.

He won the WBC ABC super flyweight belt after knocking out former world champion Suriyan Satorn in the fourth round in 2020. He successfully defended his belt with a lopsided unanimous decision over one-time world title challenger Karoon Jarupianlerd in 2021.

The 21-year-old Panyakum also owns wins over veteran former world title contenders Wicha Phulaikhao and Wittawas Basapean.

Lerasan is 10-4 with three knockouts, while Panyakum is 12-1 with six knockouts.
