Ligas faces Mama on March 5

VSP Promotions added another exciting bout to its already stacked “Tiger 2022-Ultimate Knockout Challenge” Benshow on March 5, 2022 in Parañaque City.

A competitive contest between Ben Ligas and Jerven Mama is the latest fight that has been added to the event that is headlined by a World Boxing Association Asia super featherweight title fight between former Olympian Charly Suarez (9-0, 6 KOs) and Tomjune Mangubat (15-2-1, 12 KOs).

The 23-year-old Ligas is eager to bounce back after suffering a controversial split decision loss to April Jay Abne in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Silver flyweight title fight in Mandaue City on Oct. 30, 2021. He fought three times in 2021, wherein he beat veteran Alphoe Dagayloan by unanimous decision, settled to a majority draw with Miel Fajardo, and finally lost to Abne.

Ligas is a former Philippine super flyweight and flyweight champion.

Like Ligas, Mama is also coming off a loss. He suffered his first career defeat on July 3, 2021, after getting knocked out by world-rated light flyweight Mark Vicelles in Mandaue City.

The 24-year-old Mama was one of the promising unbeaten prospects from the Sanman Gym in Gen. Santos City before he lost to Vicelles. He owns wins over Jerald Palcar and Adrian Lerasan.

Ligas is 13-2-2 with nine knockouts, while Mama is 12-1-1 with seven knockouts.

Jino Rodrigo (6-2-2, 4 KOs) is up against unbeaten Vietnamese Van Hai Nguyen (2-0, 1 KO) in one of the featured fights.

Also seeing action in the blockbuster show are former world champion Vic Saludar (21-5, 11 KOs), promising undefeated prospect Carl Jammes Martin (18-0, 15 KOs), veteran Jhunriel Ramonal (17-9-6, 10 KOs) and Lorenz Ladrada (11-2-1, 3 KOs).
