THE National Government will establish coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination sites in transport terminals around Metro Manila, acting presidential spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said on Friday, January 21, 2022.

Nograles said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will conduct a five-day vaccination drive at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) from January 24 to 28.

He added that 500 doses of AstraZeneca will be available daily at the PITX.

Nograles said walk-ins will be allowed and registration will be done onsite.

"Ang programang ito ay sadyang ihahandog natin para sa mga transport worker at commuter," Nograles said.

Nograles said the DOTr will also soon establish vaccination sites in train stations, ports and tollways.

On Thursday, January 20, the National Government launched the pilot implementation of Covid-19 vaccination in several pharmacies and clinics in Metro Manila in a bid to make inoculation more accessible to the public.

As of January 20, a total of 56,835,020 individuals have been fully vaccinated in the country, while 59,607,306 received their first dose.

Presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo earlier urged the government to make Covid-19 vaccination more accessible to the public by putting up sites in barangays and transport terminals, especially amid the policy issued by the DOTr barring unvaccinated individuals from riding or entering a public utility vehicle.

The DOTr issued the “no vaccine, no ride/entry” following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to restrict the mobility of unvaccinated persons as they are more at risk of getting severely or critically ill due to Covid-19.

Duterte issued the order amid the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.

The country on Thursday, January 20, logged 275,364 active Covid-19 cases. (SunStar Philippines)
