Cops uproot 3,000 marijuana plants

SOME 3,000 marijuana plants were uprooted in Kiblawan Municipal, Davao del Sur on January 18, 2022, as reported by the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG).

In a statement released by PNP-DEG, the Special Operations Unit 11 under the supervision of Police Brigadier General Remus Medina, 3,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants were uprooted around 7:45 a.m. of January 18.

The confiscated marijuana plants have an estimated Standard Drug Price of P600,000 and cover approximately 2,000 square meters of land.

The drug enforcement operation was conducted in the mountainous areas of Sitio Lamboguis, Barangay Bulol-salo, Municipality of Kiblawan in Davao del Sur.

The operating team was also composed of personnel from Kiblawan Municipal Police Station, 39 Infantry Battalion Philippine Army-Delta Company, 2nd MC Davao del Sur Police Mobile Force Company, and 1104th MC-Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11.

The Police Regional Office of Davao Region has yet to give a statement regarding the issue, but according to the PNP-DEG, no cultivator was apprehended during the said operation.

Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, lists marijuana, or cannabis, as an illegal dangerous drug.

Sale, possession, use, importation, manufacturing, cultivation, among others, of marijuana and other dangerous drugs listed in RA 9165 is punishable by fine and imprisonment.

Perpetrators can face life imprisonment and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million.
