Above 30,000 fresh cases for 3rd straight day

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, January 22, 2022, reported for the third straight day above 30,000 fresh cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the Philippines.

In its 4 p.m. Saturday case bulletin, the DOH logged 30,552 cases of Covid-19, pushing the country's caseload to 3,387,524.

The new cases also raised the total active cases nationwide to 280,619.

Majority of the active cases or 267,236 (98.3 percent) were those exhibiting mild symptoms. A total of 8,591 cases were asymptomatic, 2,996 were moderate, 1,491 were severe and 305 were critical.

The positivity rate stood at 45.1 percent fron the 68,049 tests conducted January 20.

The death toll in the country also increased to 53,406, with 97 new deaths added to the count. The death rate stood at 1.58 percent.

The health department also reported 41,471 new recoveries, bringing the total to 3,053,499 or 90.1 percent.

As for the healthcare utilization rate, 52 percent of intensive care unit beds, 52 percent of isolation beds, 53 percent of ward beds and 24 percent of ventilators were utilized.

The DOH has reminded the public to keep practicing minimum health protocols and to get vaccinated to protect themselves and everyone around them from the threat of Covid-19, especially its more transmissible variant, Omicron.
