AT LEAST 20 persons who engaged in illegal cockfighting or tigbakay were arrested by the police on Sunday afternoon, January 23, 2022 in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu.
Six of those arrested were cornered after a brief chase in Sitio Lower, Barangay Linao around 3:20 p.m. on Sunday.
The police were able to confiscate two fighting cocks and a bet money amounting to P359.
Later at 4:30 p.m., another 14 people engaged in tigbakay were arrested by the police in a separate raid in Purok 9, Barangay Cadulawan.
Confiscated were two fighting cocks, two cockfighting blades and P540 in bet money.
Major William Homoc, chief of the Minglanilla Police Station, said some of the gamblers scampered to different directions after sensing the arrival of raiding policemen.
Homoc was grateful to the informants resulting in the arrest of said gamblers. (GPL, TPT)
