24,938 new Covid-19 cases; positivity rate at 40.6%

THE Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday, January 24, 24,938 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) that further pushed the country's total caseload to 3,442,056.

The health department said 97 percent or 24,239 of the new cases were recorded within the last 14 days.

Regions with the highest number of additional cases are Metro Manila, with 3,610 infections (15 percent), Calabarzon with 3,382 (14 percent), and Central Visayas with 2,562 (11).

The country's positivity rate stood at 40.6 percent, from the 59,896 samples tested last January 22.

The new cases reported Monday, January 24, also pushed the country's active Covid-19 cases to 262,938 (7.6 percent), of which 98.2 percent are mild and asymptomatic.

The DOH also logged 35,461 new recoveries that brought that total number of Covid-19 survivors to 3,125,540 (90.8 percent).

There were also 47 additional mortalities that raised the death toll to 53,519 or 1.55 percent of all confirmed cases.

Five laboratories, which contribute more or less 0.9 percent of samples tested and 0.8 percent of individuals who tested positive in the last 14 days, were not able to submit their output last January 22, said the DOH. (LMY)
