AT LEAST seven local government units (LGU) in Cebu Province reported double-digit new Covid-19 cases on Jan. 23 and 24, 2022.

These LGUs are the cities of Danao, Toledo and Talisay, and the municipalities of Bantayan, Balamban, Consolacion and Liloan.

The LGUs of Danao City, Toledo City, Balamban, Liloan and Bantayan reported on their Facebook pages 10 or more fresh cases on Monday, Jan. 24.

Balamban had 50 new cases on Jan. 24; Liloan, 34; Danao City, 14; Toledo City, 13; and Bantayan town, 10.

The Municipality of Alcoy had four new cases, bringing its active cases to 16.

As for the active cases in the other LGUs, Liloan had 259 active cases; Toledo City, 128; Danao City, 120; Balamban, 75; and Bantayan town, 25.

Based on the Jan. 24 Covid-19 bulletin of the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7), Cebu Province had 218 new cases and 3,934 active cases.

As for Sunday, Jan. 23, Talisay City had 107 new cases, bringing the city’s active cases to 500.

The youngest among the new cases was a newborn boy from Barangay Tanke who was swabbed on Jan. 21 as a close contact of a confirmed case.

The oldest was a 78-year-old woman from Barangay Dumlog. She was swabbed on Jan. 22.

Consolacion had 36 new cases and 216 active cases as of Jan. 23.

Of the 21 barangays in Consolacion, only Lanipga had no reported active case as of Jan. 23.

Barangays with double-digit active cases included Casili (34), Lamac (25), Tayud (25), Pitogo (16), Pulpogan (15), Tugbongan (15), Cansaga (14), and Nangka (13).

On Jan. 23, the DOH 7 reported that Cebu Province had 343 new cases and 4,062 active cases.

Cebu Province comprises 44 towns and six component cities. It had a population of 3,325,385 in 2020.

Cebu Province excludes the highly urbanized cities of Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.
