THE Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (BAKUD) political party in Cebu's fifth district has endorsed the candidacies of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in the May 2022 national elections.

This was announced by Danao City Mayor Ramon Durano III in a press conference on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

"The Bakud party proudly announces that we are and shall be supporting the BBM-Sara UniTeam for the presidency and the vice presidency,” Durano said.

The mayor explained that there was no money involved in endorsing the BBM-Sara tandem and that they just wanted to help them win in the election because of their closeness with the Marcoses, and Duterte-Carpio, whose family history has been traced to Danao.

Durano believed that Bongbong Marcos is capable of bringing the nation towards recovery amid the pandemic that the country is facing.

"This is the position of Bakud that this endorsement by Bakud for BBM and Inday Sara is unconditional so our purpose is to help them win in the fifth district. The officials of Bakud know that the party can help them win in the fifth district. Our friendship is beyond politics," Durano said.

"Since the pandemic we need a president that can unite the country so for us to recover and sa among closeness ni BBM I see him as a good person. Mao mana atong makita di siya palaaway, di siya mayabang (That's what we see of him, he does not like trouble, he's not boastful) so I think that is a good quality sa usa ka (of a) leader to unite the country. Makita na nato kay whatever the allegations sa iyang amahan dili man giiingon nga ang (We can notice that because whatever allegations hurled against his father is not like) the sin of the father is the sin of the son," he added.

Durano said Bongbong and his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, were already aware about their endorsement.

He said they would be very grateful if the UniTeam would also endorse them in return.

But he said they would still continue supporting the UniTeam, even without their endorsement.

"Kon i-endorse mi, kinsa may di malipay, but sa akong giingon wa man ni kondisyon. Kon dili kami okay ra sad kay di man ko seloso. Ang importante lang ang among friendship (If they endorse us, we will be glad, but as I said, there is no condition. If we are not their choice, it's okay we would not get jealous)," according to Durano.

Former Tourism secretary and Cebu gubernatorial candidate Ace Durano was not present during the meeting as he isolated himself after he tested positive for Covid-19 virus.

The mayor said they still would have to ask Ace and his runningmate, incumbent Vice Governor Hilario Davide III, whom they are going to support this coming election.

As of now, the Durano-Davide tandem has not revealed yet their presidentiables and vice presidentiables, but the former Tourism secretary had said earlier that he would go for BBM-Sara tandem. (ANV, TPT)
