THE City Government of Davao has reimposed wearing of face shields for healthcare workers and medical staff in vaccination hubs after staff have tested positive for coronavirus.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, said face shields were made mandatory to give added protection for healthcare workers.

“Gi-mandatory lang na sa healthcare workers, particularly sa vaccination hubs because we cannot afford to get sick (We made face shield mandatory for health care workers in vaccination hubs because we cannot afford them to get sick),” said Schlosser, emphasizing that they are avoiding more staff from getting infected.

“Some of the studies show that naay added protection ang face shields therefore gi-impose siya for health care workers (Some studies show that face shields give added protection; therefore, we require it for our health care workers,” said Schlosser in a radio interview on Wednesday, January 26.

The spokesperson clarified, however, that the face shield mandate does not cover the general public, thus Dabawenyos are not required to wear such.

In a separate interview with the city information office, Schlosser added that business owners, and establishments have the option to require the wearing of face shields within their establishments.

Meanwhile, the vaccination hub in People’s Park and Crocodile park reopened on Wednesday, January 26, after being closed for two days.

The said vaccination hubs underwent a series decontamination after 24 vaccination staff tested positive for the coronavirus.

“I can assure the public na walay dapat ikahadlok. Ang atong mga healthcare workers na gipaduty didto is RT-PCR negative, walay ongoing symptoms na covid related (I can assure the public that there is nothing to be afraid of. Our health care workers in the vaccination sites all

tested negative for the RT-PCR and they have no ongoing symptoms related to the virus),” said Schlosser.

As of date, Schlosser said half of the 24 Covid-19-positive vaccination staff have recovered.
