Temporary dumpsite in SRP now cleared of waste

CEBU City's temporary dumpsite in South Road Properties (SRP) is now cleared of waste materials and what's left in the area are debris like tree leaves and tree branches that can be composted.

On Monday, January 24, 2022, the Cebu City government had already terminated the services of dump trucks and heavy equipment that helped collect wastes and debris left by the typhoon from the city's thoroughfares.

According to Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of logistics for road clearing, the schedule of garbage collection in the city has gone back to normal.

The barangays in Cebu City south will now bring their garbage to the transfer station in Inayawan before this will be transferred to the landfill in Binaliw, a mountain barangay in Cebu City, while the barangays from the north will throw their garbage directly to Binaliw.

Guardo said they hurriedly transferred the waste to Inayawan after the SRP locators requested them to do so due to the foul odors coming from the area.

The total quantity of garbage collected by the city during the post-Odette clearing operation has not been determined yet as they were still waiting for ARN Central Waste Management, owner of landfill, to submit a list.

Guardo said the exact amount the city spent during the clearing operation will be determined by the Association of Carriers and Equipment of Lessors (ACEL) as allowed by the Commission on Audit under the "emergency procurement."

According to Guardo, Cebu City Administrator Engr. Maria Suzanne Ardosa is still getting the data on the city's payables.

The city paid an hourly rate of P2,500 for dumptruck, P1,500 for mini dumptruck, P3,400 for payloaders and P1,800-P2,000 for skid loaders.

Guardo said the city was able to save from renting out the dump trucks and heavy equipment since it already included the fuel and salaries of drivers.

On Saturday, January 22, 2022, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama created the Oplan Ratsada to clear the roads of spaghetti wires after they were left unattended by telcos.

The Oplan Ratsada is composed of Department of Public Services, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) headed by retired Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Gen. Aderson Comar, Quick Response Team (QRT), Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) ug Parks and Playgrounds Commission. (REV, TPT)
