NBI to probe ‘hacking’ of teachers’ Landbank accounts

JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevara has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation and case build-up on the recent alleged hacking of the bank accounts of teachers.

Guevarra said he expected NBI officer-in-charge Eric Distor to submit to him a progress report of their investigation within 30 days.

Earlier, the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition said it received numerous complaints from its members, particularly public school teachers, over unauthorized transactions in their Landbank accounts.

It said some of them lost as much as P121,000 each from their accounts.

The Landbank earlier said that the devices of the teachers were hacked through a phishing scheme, which compromised their personal information.

“The bank has already reached out to the affected customers and is working on the resolution of these isolated cases at the soonest possible time,” it said in a statement. (SunStar Philippines)
